We needed to cut costs and increase production on an unbalanced electronics line where we could build chargers on the back end of the production line faster than we could populate printed circuit boards on the front end. I devised a process where we produced PC boards only – using a very small crew on the weekends – and stored them as stock to supplement the back end of the line when we ran certain products.
This new process allowed us to achieve aggressive production goals, and we expected to save US$ 660K per year.
